When Abigail Nicholson saw Burger King had released chicken tenders, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. But after tasting the new product she has said they’re better than McDonald’s Chicken Selects
When it comes to fried chicken in the fast food market, it’s safe to say the market is quite saturated. Whether you’re a fan of chicken from the Colonel himself, or prefer nuggets from KFC or another offering from the likes of Wendy’s or Popeyes, there is something for everyone’s taste buds.
So when it came to Burger King launching their own crispy chicken tenders, I have to admit that I rolled my eyes as it feels like something that has been done 100 times over already. But being a woman that is happy to be proved wrong, I knew I still wanted to try the new dish.
The thing I order the most when getting a takeaway is McDonald’s Chicken Selects with their perfectly juicy chicken centre and crispy and peppery crumb. So when it comes to chicken tenders, there is already a high bar.
The new tenders either come in a box of three, five or eight for £6.99, £9.19 and £9.99 respectively on Uber Eats. Before the food had even arrived, there was a comparison to be made on price, with the Burger King offering being more expensive than my beloved McDonald’s.
But once the tenders arrived, and I saw them barely managing to stay inside their box, I was impressed by just how big the tenders were. Compared to McDonald’s, and even KFC, there was a lot more chicken inside each tender.
What do they Burger King Crispy Chicken Tenders taste like?
I was surprised after first taking a bite of the chicken tender, especially as there was a barbeque taste straight away. It wasn’t overpowering, and also wasn’t a sauce on the inside of the crumb – more just like a subtle flavouring from the crispy crumb.
For me, this completely stole the show as it’s unlike any other chicken tender on the market in the UK. It’s also really inn keeping with their chargrilled brand and made me want more and more.
Alongside the tenders came three new exclusive dips, BK Flame-Grilled Mayo, Spicy Smokehouse Ketchup and BBQ Mayo. I’m not a mayo girl, but thought both the BK Flame-Grilled and BBQ Mayo were very well seasoned.
The Spicy Smokehouse Ketchup however? Sensational. The smoky ketchup was the perfect blend of sweetness and spice and paired with the tenders impeccably.
Although the tenders were more expensive than their McDonald’s counterpart, I’d argue that they were much more filling and had a better flavour.
I’d rate the tenders a solid nine out of 10 and will be buying them again, especially as Burger King chips are much better than the golden arches.
