Featuring 8 International Artists Across Photography, Video, Generative Art, AI-Assisted Work, Painting, and Mixed Media Practice
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Celeste Gallery is proud to announce the launch of The Narcissus Protocol, an online collective exhibition bringing together eight international artists to investigate the entanglement between selfhood and the algorithms that mediate it. The exhibition opens on 8th October 2026 and runs through 8th November 2026, freely accessible to global audiences through an immersive 3D virtual gallery.

The Mirror That Looks Back
At the heart of The Narcissus Protocol lies a reimagining of an ancient myth. Narcissus did not fall in love with himself. He fell in love with an image that answered him, without knowing it was his own. Today, the mirror is a platform: a filter that flatters us into staying, a feed that learns our desires before we do, an avatar that outlives the person who made it. As identity is increasingly authored by code, the self we see reflected back may not be authentic. It may be optimised. This exhibition is not about vanity. It is about capture: the quiet exchange between visibility and autonomy, and what it means to fall in love with a reflection engineered to hold our gaze.

A Curatorial Journey in Four Chapters
Curated by Celeste Gallery’s curatorial team, the exhibition is structured as a four-part journey that follows the movement from looking into the mirror, to being looked at by it, to wanting to switch it off. It begins with The Doubled Mirror, where reflection and duplication become a visual language; moves into The Data Shadow, which traces the profiles and predictions assembled from our every click; passes through The Engineered Face, a dazzling and unsettling study of beauty designed for retention; and closes with Opacity, where concealment and silence become forms of resistance. The result is a cohesive yet multifaceted exploration of how we are seen, and how we are made, by the systems that watch us.
The exhibition features works by Linrui (Yaning) Xiong, Cameron Lings, Xiaowei Shan, Zhaojia Zhang, Sudipta Modi, Zivia Li, Ilona Joy, and Darren Greenblatt, spanning photography, moving image, generative art, AI-assisted practice, painting, and mixed media. Together, their works construct a quiet dialogue between the self, the screen, the algorithm, and the right not to be fully seen.

A New Model for Exhibition-Making
Presented entirely online through an immersive 3D virtual gallery built on Kunstmatrix, The Narcissus Protocol reflects Celeste Gallery’s ongoing commitment to making contemporary art accessible to audiences worldwide, breaking the geographic boundaries of traditional exhibition spaces. In an exhibition about screens that watch us back, the digital is treated not merely as a display method, but as the very mirror under examination.
Curator Chen reflected on the exhibition: “Every mirror we use today is also looking at us. The Narcissus Protocol asks viewers to consider what they agreed to when they started looking, and whether they would still recognise themselves if the reflection stopped answering.”
The Narcissus Protocol is on view from 8th October 2026 to 8th November 2026. Free to access at www.celestegallery.uk.
