Inside £460k Scottish coastal home with stunning sea views and dreamy garden

A beautiful Victorian home with sea views, mature gardens and plenty of period charm has gone on the market in a picturesque Scottish coastal village. Coastguard House, in Carsethorn, Dumfries, is open to offers over £460,000 and boasts three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two spacious living rooms.

The property sits at the edge of the village, overlooking the Solway Firth and combines traditional Victorian features with large living space.

Inside, the home still has its traditional character, with cornicing, sash and case windows and an eye-catching curved staircase with a balustrade, that acts as the focal point in the entrance hallway.

The main sitting room stretches across a large area of the house, giving those who eventually purchase the home plenty of room to create both a comfortable living room and formal dining space.

One of the standout spaces is the large garden room extension at the back of the property. The bright room looks out across the garden and towards the sea, with French doors opening onto the garden as well as a private courtyard.

The private courtyard adds an extra space in the property for the owners to relax when the warmer months arrive, or for hosting garden parties in the summer for friends and family.

The kitchen and breakfast room sits alongside the main living areas and features a selection of fitted units, with space for everyday family dining. There is also a sizeable utility room with room for laundry appliances such as a washing machine and tumble dryer and extra freezer storage.

Additionally there is also a bathroom and shower room beside the main entrances, which makes it perfect for those coming in from the beach or messy outdoor activities to head straight in for a shower.

Upstairs, there are three generously sized double bedrooms and a spacious family bathroom. The bedroom at the front of the house looks onto the Solway Firth, making the most of the properties seafront views.

Outside, the gardens are just as impressive, with mature trees, shrubs and plants providing privacy and colour throughout the year.

A large green area runs towards the front boundary, while a pathway leads through a gate and onto the quiet road, with the beach located directly across from the property.

A patio area is tucked away behind large hedges, creating a secluded spot for some outdoor dinners during the summer, taking advantage of the sea views. The rear garden also includes raised beds for growing fruit and vegetables.

Next to the garden room is a sheltered courtyard with attractive tiled details and a stone-built outbuilding. The large space could be transformed into a home office, gym, studio, workshop, or hobby room, depending on the new owner’s needs.

There is also a garage with an up-and-over door within the main courtyard.

The property is in Carsethron, a small village on the Solway coast with a fascinating history. During the 18th and early 19th centuries, Casethron was a thriving port, with regular sailings to Liverpool, the Isle of Man and Ireland.

It also became an emigration point for Scots heading to North America.

Although, today the village has a much quieter feel, with a row of pretty coastal homes looking across the Solway Firth. The popular restaurant the Steamboat Inn is also nearby, welcoming both locals and visitors seven days a week.

With its period features, generous accommodation, mature gardens and coastal outlook, Coastguard House offers a chance to own a character-filled home in one of Dumfries and Galloway’s picturesque seaside villages.

The property is currently on the market for offers over £460,000 and can be found on the official Galbraith website, or by clicking the link here.
