American makes full English breakfast but Brits spot 1 major problem

An American has shared his attempt of a full English breakfast – and while some Brits acknowledge his effort, others can’t get over the obvious error he made when putting the dish together

Brits have been left horrified after seeing an American’s attempt at a full English breakfast – with many pointing out one major mistake. The dish appeared to tick most of the usual boxes, including four sausages, two eggs, around five strips of bacon, chopped tomato, baked beans and a slice of toast.

There was even a bottle of Cholula hot sauce on the side – an unusual choice compared to the classic ketchup or brown sauce, but not the biggest issue for social media users. Instead, it was the beans that sparked outrage. Looking closely at the image, many were baffled by their appearance, claiming they looked dry and stripped of their sauce.

One Reddit user said: “The beans look like someone’s sucked the sauce off them and spat them back into the ramekin!”

Another added: “What the f*** has happened to those beans? It looks like you’ve bought a tin of Heinz and rinsed the juice off.”

A third joked: “I’ve never seen beans out of their natural habitat like this before. It’s like seeing a salmon in the middle of Death Valley. Zooming in, it looks like somebody’s tried to add liquid back in to resuscitate them – but it’s too late.”

While the beans took most of the criticism, others gave a mixed review of the rest of the plate.

One commenter said: “Eggs – decent. Sausages – not the traditional style we’d use for a full English, but still look okay. Tomatoes – decent. Bacon – same as the sausages. Toast – where on Earth is the butter? Beans – I have no words.”

Summing up the general feeling, another user wrote: “It’s got potential, but it’s not quite there. Like a kid’s colouring book – they’ve stayed in the lines, but left a lot of white space.”

What is the difference between an American and British breakfast?

The full English is hearty, savoury, and often includes multiple cooked items on one plate. In contrast, American breakfasts often mix sweet and savoury items like pancakes with syrup and bacon.

Another big difference is baked beans are standard in British breakfasts, but rare in American. The type of beans you get across the pond differ greatly too.

Goodwoods explain the “key differences” between American and British baked beans, advising online: “Baked beans are a staple of British cuisine, introduced to the UK in the early 20th century by Heinz. Since then, they have become an essential part of the classic full English breakfast.

“American beans are used in a variety of ways, from spicy Tex-Mex refried beans to smoky barbecue-style baked beans. American baked beans are often slow-cooked with brown sugar, bacon, or molasses, making them much sweeter than their British counterparts.”

They add: “While both styles of beans have their merits, the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference, whether you prefer the tangy, tomato-based simplicity of British beans or the sweet, smoky depth of American beans. Either way, beans remain an essential and much-loved food in both cultures.”
