Iceland has launched a brand new party snack inspired by the BBC reality show The Traitors, and fans say they feel ‘seen’ as it combines their two favourite hobbies together

Iceland has become the unlikely hero of the nation’s viewing parties, and if you’re a fan of BBC’s The Traitors, you’ll want to pay attention. Whether you’re hosting a big get-together or a quiet night in front of the telly, Iceland has just dropped something that’s guaranteed to be a talking point for telly fans, and it’s already causing quite a stir online.

The supermarket has launched a brand new party snack inspired by The Traitors, the BBC’s smash-hit psychological reality series that has gripped the nation since it first aired in 2022. The show has grown into a full-blown cultural phenomenon, spawning celebrity editions, international versions, a board game, and now, its very own range of themed food.

Food discovery account New Foods UK flagged the exciting launch on Instagram, revealing the new Round Table Jalapeño Wheel, which is now available to buy at Iceland. The packaging carries The Traitors branding front and centre, complete with text stating it is “based on the programme from the BBC“, as well as the show’s iconic tagline: “Who can you trust?”

The wheel contains 12 cheesy bites in total – nine of which are mildly spiced, and three of which pack a seriously fiery punch. You spin the wheel to find out which bite is yours, and if you land on a mild one, you’re declared a Faithful. Land on a hot one, however, and you’re branded a Traitor.

As the packaging puts it: “Spin the wheel and taste your fate: Faithful mild or Traitorous hot.”

Priced at £5, The Traitors Round Table Jalapeño Wheel is available now at Iceland. The mild bites are filled with mozzarella, full-fat soft cheese and jalapeño pepper flakes, all encased in a hot, spicy batter and breadcrumb coating. The three spicy bites contain the same filling but with the ferocious addition of Carolina Reaper chilli pepper – one of the hottest chillies in the world – to really separate the Faithfuls from the Traitors.

Fans were quick to react to the New Foods UK post, with many saying the snack is an inspired idea that combines two of their favourite things.

One person said: “New chilli challenges here!”

Another simply replied: “I feel seen.”

Meanwhile, one Facebook commenter wrote: “I’ll be playing this game by myself, only one portion there for a true spice fan.”

For anyone yet to discover The Traitors, the show is based on the Dutch series De Verraders. It centres on a group of contestants competing in a social deduction game, think the classic games Mafia or Werewolf, but with higher stakes and a lot more drama. A small number of players are secretly designated as traitors, while the rest – known as the faithfuls – must work together to figure out who they are before the traitors can eliminate them one by one.

If the faithfuls succeed in voting out every traitor, the prize fund is split equally between them. But if a traitor makes it to the finale without being rumbled, they take home the entire prize pot for themselves.

The fourth series aired in January this year, and with the second instalment of The Celebrity Traitors set to debut on BBC One this autumn, there’s never been a better time to stock up on Iceland’s new themed snack and settle in for a night of suspense.

And it turns out the daring wheel of cheese bites isn’t the only Traitors-themed product on offer at Iceland. You can also buy assorted jelly beans for £2.50, where each colour represents two flavours – one tasty, and one gross. For example, orange beans are either tropical or curry flavoured, while green ones could be watermelon or cabbage.

You can also pick up The Traitors milk chocolate coins, The Traitors chewy sweets, and The Traitors chocolate biscuits, so your next watch party can enjoy a treat after the tense food-based games.
