Air fryer mince pies are quick and easy to make, and they taste delicious too. The festive pies bake in just 12 minutes

Nothing beats biting into a piping hot, spiced mince pie with crumbly pastry and lashings of fruit. But whipping up mince pies from scratch can be time-consuming, particularly when you’re waiting for your oven to heat up.

Doves Farm, Britain’s leading organic flour brand, boasts a treasure trove of festive recipes on its website, including air fryer mince pies.

The recipe states: “Baked in mini pudding basins, dariole moulds or foil dishes, these fantastic, closed air fryer mince pies will hit that Christmas sweet spot. Delicious served warm or cold at almost any time.”

This speedy and fruity recipe offers a contemporary twist on a timeless favourite that’s ideal for those pressed for time.

They require just 12 minutes in the air fryer, making them brilliant for unexpected visitors too, reports the Express.

Air fryer mince pies recipe

Equipment:

  • Eight mini pudding basins or dariole moulds
  • round pastry cutters
  • pastry blender
  • pastry brush
  • scissors
  • mixing bowl

Ingredients:

  • 75g butter
  • 125g Doves Farm Organic Plain White Flour
  • 25g icing sugar
  • Two to three tbsp cold water
  • 150g mincemeat
  • butter for dishes or basins
  • flour, for dusting
  • milk, for brushing

Method:

Check whether your mini moulds will fit in your air fryer and rub a little butter around the inside of eight mini pudding basins.

Cut the butter into small cubes in a mixing bowl before adding the flour and icing sugar. Using a fork or pastry blender, work the ingredients together until they resemble breadcrumbs.

Then, sprinkle enough water over the flour and stir to form a soft ball of dough.

Dust the work surface with flour, put the dough in the middle, sprinkle with more flour and roll out until about 1.5mm thick.

Ensure you choose pastry cutters that match the top and bottom diameters of the mini basins and press them into the dough to make eight circles of each size. Then, gather the pastry scraps and repeat the rolling and cutting process until you’ve used up all the pastry.

Transfer the larger circles to the bottom of the mini basins and add a teaspoon of mincemeat.

Brush the smaller circles with milk, then place them, milk side down, over the mincemeat, pressing lightly around the edges.

Using the tip of a pair of scissors, make a snip in the top of each pie to allow steam to escape.

Chill for five minutes. While they’re chilling, and preheat the air fryer at 170°C.

Working quickly, open the air fryer, lift the basins inside and close the door. Set your air fryer to bake at 170°C for 12 to 15 minutes.

Once cooked, carefully remove the cooked mince pies from the air fryer and cook the second batch if required.

Tip the cooked mince pies out of their basins and leave to cool on a wire rack.

Serve either by themselves or with a dollop of cream or ice cream.
