CD Projekt RED has finally confirmed a rough window when fans can expect The Witcher 4 to release, but it’s not going to be next year.

In a video discussing the development studio’s plans for Gamescom 2026, Michal Nowakowski, the joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, explains that The Witcher 4 is currently targeting a release window of 2028. This is brand new information for Witcher fans, with the game previously not having a release window at all.

“While we’re not showing The Witcher 4 at [Gamescom 2026], and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this. The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window,” explains Nowakowski.

“I know it’s a bit of a wait and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait.”

The Witcher 4 is set to star Ciri as its main protagonist, and will take place in the Northern Realms of the world of the Witcher. It’s set to be the first in a brand new trilogy of games, which the studio plans to release in relatively quick succession after the first installment lands in 2028.

Nowakowski goes on to provide a few details about the upcoming game, saying: “The Witcher 4 features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay, and a deep impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time.

“Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.”

CD Projekt RED will be showing off the brand new DLC for The Witcher 3, Songs of the Past, at Gamescom Opening Night Live. There will also be a playable demo on the stage floor at the event.

That’s set to release in 2027, although there’s also no concrete release date for that just yet.
