The full list of New Look stores closing this year

The latest will close doors for the final time on September 17 and is based in Scarborough.

The North Yorkshire location in Brunswick Centre, Scarborough, will close for good in just a few weeks.

Another of the store’s High Street bases shut in August, based in Wales, which brings the total number of closures in the UK this year so far to 13, with another 26 in Ireland. New Look states online that is has 338 stores in the UK.

The first store to get the chop in 2025 was New Look’s Wickford branch in Essex, which closed on January 24 after 15 years of trading. So far nothing has replaced that store.

Other shops that have shut over the course of this year include Loughborough, as well as branches in St Austell, Cornwall, and Team Valley Retail World, Gateshead.

The high street brand has already restructured its UK store estate twice in the past six years, and has almost halved its High Street presence in that time – decreasing from the 600 outlets it held in 2018.

It is believed the closures were prompted by the rise in employment costs announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves in October 2024, which saw an announcement of hikes on National Insurance.

A New Look spokesperson said: “Our store estate is an important part of our business, alongside our best-in-class website and app.

“It is this omni-channel approach which allows us to best serve our 10 million customers, however, they like to shop.

“We have recently invested over £3 million in our stores in Greater Manchester to trial new omni-channel initiatives to improve customer experience. Using the learnings from these trials, we are now upgrading a further 17 stores across the country.

‘We also continue to invest in our thriving online platform, which has resulted in a strong online sales performance, with volumes significantly outpacing last year and an improved online margin.”
