Marks and Spencer megafans have taken to social media to protest that a popular product is now being sold in the US market – but Americans are definitely excited
An American woman has expressed her delight as Percy Pigs, the beloved British sweet, hits shelves across the United States.
The pig-shaped treats are a hit in the UK, with M&S revealing staggering stats of 36 bags flying off the shelves every minute – that’s about 18.7 million bags a year. These numbers illustrate just why tourists often flock to M&S for a taste when they’re on British soil.
Natalie Ludgwig, a food vlogger from San Diego, California, calls Percy Pigs her top choice in confectionary. During her London visits, Natalie never misses grabbing a pack of the pink sweets, so the news of Percy Pigs arriving at Target stores nationwide in the US left her over the moon.
For $3.99 a bag [£3.09], American shoppers can now indulge in these gummies either in person or online. Sharing her enthusiasm in a recent TikTok video, Natalie announced: “This is a public service announcement. For the first time ever Percy Pics have launched in the United States. I have never been so excited for a candy launch in my entire life.”
She went on to explain: “If you’ve never been to London and you’re not familiar with what Percy Pigs are, these little gummy candies that are only available at Marks and Spencer or M&S, just launched today in Target nationwide.”
As she opened a packet, her excitement was palpable: “Oh, stop it you’re joking. I cannot stress how much I love these little piggies. Cheers to my first every Percy in the United States.”
She could not hold back her excitement as she dug into the sweets, exclaiming: “C’mon, that’s the best thing ever. I can’t even describe the flavour, it’s the perfect texture and flavour. Like when I think of a gummy candy, this is exactly what I want. If you guys pick these and don’t like them, I’d be surprised. Honestly, they’re just my favourite. High recommend, unreal.”
An American fan could hardly contain their joy, commenting: “Are you joking right now, I’m going to cry.” And another agreed, adding eagerly: “Stop, it’s true.”
Someone else penned: “You have literally just made my week. This has been my pregnancy craving that I haven’t been able to get.”
And another American confessed with gusto: “I’m being so serious, I went to London for a week and I couldn’t find them. I’m happy they’re at Target.”
But not everyone across the pond is thrilled about Percy Pigs landing in the US. One Brit grumbled: “Why does America get everything we have but we get nothing they have in the UK.”
Another chimed in with similar sentiments: “How come American get British sweets but British people don’t get American sweets?” And a third was plainly incensed: “So I’m angry.”
To top off the discontent, one other protested: “Wait that’s not fair. You shouldn’t get to steal our sweets like Percy Pigs are ours.” And rounding off the disgruntled voice was a fifth commentator: “Percy Pigs belong to the UK.”
