One of the highlights of a hotel stay is undoubtedly the chance to indulge in a buffet-style breakfast – as they often boast an array of mouth-watering options.

If you’re a fan of a lavish hotel breakfast, you may have already tuned into Netflix’s Million Dollar Buffet documentary. The programme follows presenter Grace Dent as she explores opulent all-you-can-eat buffets in luxury hotels, showcasing high-end spreads featuring pricey ingredients such as wagyu beef and caviar. Among the featured establishments was the Glass House restaurant at The Grove Hotel in Watford, situated just northwest of London.

This venue offers what has been hailed as one of the globe’s most exceptional buffets. But just how impressive can a buffet truly be?

This was a question food enthusiast Grace Booth wanted to answer, bringing her family along for the culinary buffet adventure. In her video, she declared: “Apparently this is the best breakfast buffet in England.”

Grace continued by expressing her belief that English breakfast buffets typically fall short, focusing too heavily on savoury dishes when she favours sweeter breakfast options. However, she was still open to giving it a go to see if it was worth the title.

When arriving at the buffet, Grace took her camera with her to capture the variety of food choices on offer.

“Even the water and the juice looks so crispy,” she said as she began by displaying the various beverage choices, which also featured freshly prepared smoothies alongside the juices.

She then swiftly moved on to reveal the granola and cereal station, before showcasing the impressive counter of fresh fruits, including different varieties of chopped melon and pineapple, plus apples, pears, and oranges.

“There’s even two types of bacon,” she remarked as she reached the hot food section, which also contained everything else you’d desire for a traditional fry-up breakfast.

Grace was then delighted to discover the counter packed with sweet pastries, muffins, doughnuts and other baked treats, before spotting the fresh waffles and pancakes.

They also offered plenty of smoked fish, and charcuterie meat selections. Regarding eggs, you could request the staff to prepare them however you preferred, including as Egg Benedict, Eggs Florentine, and Eggs Royale.

“They’ve even offered us baby cutlery,” she mentioned as she disclosed she’d ordered an omelette for her baby to enjoy, which she later declared was the finest omelette she’d ever tasted.

Final verdict

“I have to say, it is the best breakfast I have ever been to in England,” Grace continued to say after she’d returned home.

“Not in other countries, because other countries are doing it way better than England’s breakfast buffet game. But that one is unbelievable.”

The Glasshouse buffet is open to both guests staying at the hotel and those who aren’t, although it’s exclusively for hotel residents at weekends. The cost is £28 per person for those staying at the hotel, and £40 per person for those not residing there.
