A beloved 20-year-old woman was killed by her ex-boyfriend, who had been stalking her for months since their breakup, according to police.
Sarah Carroll was shot dead by her ex, who has only been named as Lincoln, on Saturday at the Woodland Villa Apartments in the Detroit area, Michigan officials said.
Police said Lincoln turned the gun on himself after killing Carroll.
Sarah’s mom Jennifer Carroll told WXYZ the shooter was the one to call 911 and reported he had shot his girlfriend.
When police arrived, they found both of their bodies and determined it was a murder-suicide.
Detectives said the man had been harassing Carroll for two months since their breakup.
Sarah had been trying to get a personal protection order against her ex before she was murdered – but had not told her parents she was being stalked, her mother said.

‘To other parents – watch your kids,’ Jennifer Currell said, according to Click on Detroit. ‘Try to get more into their life, try to get them to be open and talk to you.’
Sarah’s father James Carroll said her ex-boyfriend had been dealing with mental health issues in the lead-up to the shooting.
‘There was multiple gunshot wounds with a shotgun,’ he shared.
‘He was suffering from mental illness and we just want to get the message out there that anybody, if their children are suffering from mental illness, get them some help. Get them the help that they need before something like this happens.’
Sarah’s loved ones honored her in a vigil at the apartment complex where she was murdered.
A GoFundMe page was created. to help the family cover Sarah’s funeral costs.
‘Our hearts are shattered as we share that our beautiful,’ the family wrote.
‘Sarah was so full of life – smart, brave, strong, and with a smile that lit up every room she entered,’ James Carroll said.
