An ambulance service has suspended its accounts on social media site X for allowing the ‘perpetuation of unacceptable and offensive content’.

North East Ambulance Service suggested that some content on Elon Musk‘s site, formerly known as Twitter, was now not compatible with its values.

Spokesman Mark Cotton said: ‘We feel strongly that the failure to police content on X allows the perpetuation of unacceptable and offensive content, which has seen a sharp rise in hate speech and misinformation that is not consistent with our values.’

‘We expect our staff to uphold our values and standards when representing our service and equally we should uphold those same values and standards when using social media.’

He added: ‘Social media platforms can be contentious, but we will continue to use Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn where we have a large following.’

A post on the platform announcing the suspension read: ‘We have suspended this account because the X platform is no longer consistent with our values as an NHS emergency service.’

North East Ambulance Service urged followers to keep up with them on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Separately, Global, the UK’s largest radio company, has told its staff not to plug Elon Musk’s social media platform on-air, following the tech tycoon’s incendiary posts during the recent riots.

The Mail on Sunday has been told by insiders at Global – which owns Heart, Capital, LBC and Radio X – that production staff have been instructed not to ask listeners to tweet its stations or mention X when broadcasting

One source, who works at Global, said: ‘We were told not to plug Twitter on any of our shows.’
