The latest Borderlands 4 update is available to download on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Borderlands 4 update 1.8 launches alongside the latest batch of free and paid DLC for the popular looter shooter. Owners of the season pass (which is somewhat confusing) can check out the Zane to Kill For paid content, while all players can check out the new Takedown at Hadron Abyss mission – provided you’ve completed the main campaign.

While we’ve gone through all of the new content available in the Zane to Kill For and Takedown at Hadron Abyss packs, what was less clear is what exactly would be changed as part of the release of update 1.8. As you can see from the patch notes below, the headline new feature is cross-platform saves, which means you can play on one platform and resume on another.

Gearbox explains more: “Cross-Platform Saves are now live! This feature lets you upload your saves from one platform via SHiFT to continue playing on another platform where you own Borderlands 4.

“Please note that SHiFT code rewards like Golden Keys will not transfer platforms as part of Cross-Platform Saves, but will still be available on the platform you redeemed them for.”

Elsewhere, Gearbox has reduced the health of Subjugator and Thol the Invincible by 7%. Likewise, Shields from Sentinels will no longer block you from Thol’s melee attacks.

One of the low-key quality of life upgrades is the addition of a new grapple point in the Heart of the Mountain, which should make it easier to navigate the map.

You can check out the full list of patch notes below.

Borderlands 4 update 1.8 Patch Notes

Subjugator and Thol the Invincible

• Subjugator the Invincible’s health has been reduced by ~7%

• Subjugator the Invincible’s healing behaviour has been removed from elemental transfusion shifts

• Reduced Shield Striker’s health and Shield health by 20% each to give better Second Wind opportunities during phases in which these are the only normal enemies

• Bounty Pack 2 completion rewards only show once

• New characters receive their “Guns Blazing” mission rewards right away and earn steady progress toward Character Level Challenges

• Pearlescent gear sells for a higher price

• Firing at the fuses reliably opens the factory during Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned

• Your critical hits to Subjugator’s Superego and Subjugator the Invincible will do critical damage, and Subjugator the Invincible will appear when he’s supposed to

• Shields from Sentinels will no longer block you from Thol’s melee attacks, and Thol will target more effectively when jumping close to walls

• Primordial Guardian Radix consistently unleashes his whole suite of attacks in the fight

• A Kraggon’s death projectile spawns a new Kraggon the second it hits the ground

• Wildcard Missions for Ultimate Vault Hunter 4 Rank Up Challenges unlock smoothly when players have defeated Primordial Vault Guardians

• Vault Card challenges track your progress as intended

• “Nothing Left to Guard” unlocks when all Guardians are killed

• Heavy Weapon Ordnance successfully counts toward your “Kill Enemies with Heavy Weapon Ordnance” challenge on Vault Card 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day

• Players start at the proper location when starting Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned content while offline

• A new grapple point in the Heart of the Mountain has been added for smoother movement through the map

• Smoother map boundaries keep you moving forward and prevent you from getting stuck

• Improved voiceover audio so you can better track dialogue

• Critical Hits play their sounds at correct levels and Phosphene pickup sound effects only play once

• Added sound effects when corrupted shards stick in the ground

• Added Secondary Stats to Item Cards for gear

• ECHO Location points you in the right direction when tracking Bloomreaper and while in a Nightmare Rift in Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned

• Clearer prompts for you to engage with the post-launch content

• Menus appear and respond as expected, and various texts are easier to read

• Photo Mode: Updated the visual toggles to make sure everything turns on/off for the best shots

• When you purchase battles from Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine in splitscreen, enemies target both players right away
