If you’ve got a PS5 and are looking for a brand new experience for your console, then the good news is that the first big PlayStation console exclusive of the year is about to make its debut. Part third-person bullet hell shooter and part roguelite, Saros is the latest game from Returnal developer Housemarque. Available in physical ad digital formats, Saros has an April 30 release date and a midnight BST launch time for fans living in the UK. The game will be playable at midnight local time in all regions, with the exception of the west coast of the USA, where it can be played from 9pm PT on April 29.
If you have pre-ordered a digital version of the game, then you can pre-load Saros ahead of launch.
This is definitely worth doing, as Saros has a pretty hefty file size of around 83GB. Downloading early means you can jump into the action the moment the game goes live.
Of course, you can actually play the game right now if you purchase the Deluxe Edition, which contains 48-hour early access.
Priced at £79.99 in the UK, the digital deluxe edition also comes with three different armour sets, including the Astra Armour, the Onryo Armour and the Midgard Armour.
If you’re sticking with the standard edition, then Saros is available for £69.99 from the PlayStation Store.
Fans can save money by purchasing a physical copy of the game from retailers such as Very.
At the time of writing, the Saros Standard Edition is available for £64.95 from Very.
In terms of gameplay, Saros shares similarities with previous Housemarque hit Returnal.
Much like Returnal, players must fight through a shape-shifting world, battling screen filling monsters and overcoming deadly obstacles to progress.
Permanent upgrades are available by collecting valuable resources, while a second-chance mechanic gives you a fighting chance to progress that little bit further each time.
“Beneath the shadow of an ominous eclipse, Arjun Devraj (Rahul Kohli) is a Soltari enforcer who will stop at nothing to pursue answers on the shape-shifting Carcosa, a world of dark secrets and hostile inhabitants,” reads the official description.
“Master electrifying bullet ballet combat – intense projectile-focused gameplay with a unique, neon-infused aesthetic – to overcome ferocious enemies and spectacular boss fights.”
