Sony planning big upgrade for PlayStation consoles, just don’t expect it anytime soon | Gaming | Entertainment

Cerny discussed the new frame-generation technology in an interview with Digital Foundry: “Just to clarify a few things about the collaboration with AMD, the new PSSR uses the same core co-developed algorithm as FSR Redstone’s Upscaling (to avoid confusion, I’ll use the new names today rather than FSR4).

“FSR Frame Generation is also based on co-developed technology (or as my good friend Jack Huynh puts it, ‘co-engineered technology’). I’m very happy with how that work is progressing, and an equivalent frame generation library should be seen at some point on PlayStation platforms.”

Fans probably shouldn’t get too excited about the launch of the frame generation technology, with Cerny explaining that Sony has “no more releases planned for this year”.

In the meantime, PS5 Pro users should download the recently released PSSR update, which further boosts the visuals in a number of games.

In Silent Hill f, for example, the new and improved PSSR will result in clearer and more visually detailed shadows and blades of grass.

Elsewhere, PSSR upgrades will improve image upscaling quality and stability in Control and Alan Wake 2, allowing “efficient stochastic sampling without sacrificing image stability”.

Nioh 3 and Rise of the Ronin also take advantage of the upgraded technology, resulting in sharper edges for natural objects such as trees, plants and flowers.

After previously using enhanced PSSR in Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has added it to titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 also feature improved visuals following the latest update.
