If you’re looking for a seasonal spruce, there’s no need to break the bank as high street staples and supermarkets have all you might need. M&S has released a homeware collection that could be straight out of Soho Home, while Asda’s lamps start from £10 but look so much more expensive. Now H&M’s new stoneware collection has caught my eye with it’s Denby-style tableware that starts from just £4.99.
The collection includes muted-toned mugs, reactive-glaze vases, and ceramic serving bowls that rival the popular (and pricer) Denby pottery. The Derbyshire-based company is known for its hand-crafted ceramics, expertise in ceramics and made-to-last designs. The artisan charm of Denby’s designs make them highly sought after – something high street brands are keen to emulate.
Traditional craftsmanship is bang on trend, in fact. In our guide to the best affordable homeware, interiors expert Rosie Gangar told us that “with most of us living such digitised lives, we’re seeing a revival of traditional craftsmanship, be it hand-painted ceramics, hand-turned woodwork, hand-blown glass or hand-dyed or hand-woven textiles, like Loewe’s cult teapots.”
With prices starting at just £4.99, the collection from the high street hero is a great place to start when experimenting with this aesthetic.
For crockery that looks straight out of an trendy independent cafe, the reactive-glaze stoneware mug (£4.99, ) will elevate your morning coffee. There’s a stoneware matcha mug (£6.99, ), which comes in stone, light grey as well as forest green colourways, and a set of four handle-less mugs that are beautifully rustic looking (£24, ) – all a fraction of the cost of Denby’s glazed drinkware.
To complete your tableware, there are matching plates (£34.99, ) and bowls (£24.99, ) that have a reactive-glaze effect similar to that of Denby’s ‘Halo Glaze’ pieces. While for true matcha-lovers, H&M has you covered with its set that has a spouted bowl, tea cup and whisk holder so you can prepare the drink from scratch (£24.99, ).
Away from the dining table, a collection of vases (£14.99, ) that echo the aesthetic of Denby’s kiln accent vases, serving bowls (£34.99, ), and plant pots with saucers (£34.99, ) bring a soft elevation to any room.
