Three major UK supermarkets have issued urgent food recalls over labelling errors and undeclared allergens that could pose health risks
Three leading British supermarket chains have been compelled to remove products from their shelves following urgent food recall alerts. Asda, Aldi, and Tesco have all issued serious “do not eat” warnings to shoppers after several food items failed to properly list certain ingredients on their packaging, potentially making them hazardous for those with allergies or intolerances.
According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) consuming the affected items could present a significant “health risk” to certain individuals. The NHS explains: “A food allergy is where your body reacts to certain foods. It’s often mild, but can be very serious for some people.”
It’s crucial to understand that food allergies differ from food intolerances, which typically trigger symptoms like abdominal discomfort and bloating, generally occurring within hours of eating the problematic food.
The NHS advises that people with food allergies must remain alert and carefully examine food labels and restaurant menus before eating. Additionally, you should make friends, relatives, restaurant staff and those around you aware of your allergy, enabling swift action if required. When necessary, always carry two adrenaline auto-injectors with you, reports the Express.
Below are the latest food recall notices from Asda, Aldi, and Tesco:
Asda recalls Mini Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Dip
Major supermarket Asda has announced a product recall for its Asda 10 Mini Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Dip following an error with the use-by date on the packaging, which could pose a safety risk to shoppers.
The 220g package has been incorrectly labelled with a use-by date of December 29, 2025, whilst the accurate use-by date should state November 29, 2025, meaning the product becomes unsafe to eat after this date.
Asda is withdrawing the affected product and will place point of sale notices in all stores where the item is stocked. These notices will explain the reason for the recall and guide customers on the appropriate action to take if they’ve bought the product.
The FSA advises: “If you have bought the above product, do not consume it. Instead, please return it to your nearest store for a full refund. You do not need your receipt. For further information, please contact Asda Customer Relations on 0800 952 0101.”
Aldi removes Mozzarella Sticks in Blankets
Discount retailer Aldi has issued an urgent product recall for its Perfect Christmas Mozzarella Sticks in Blankets after discovering the product contains egg, which has not been listed on the packaging. This presents a potential health risk for shoppers with egg allergies or intolerances.
The impacted 278g packs, bearing a use-by date of December 15, 2025, have been removed from shelves, with the retail giant informing relevant allergy support organisations to warn their members and posting point-of-sale notices in branches.
The FSA states: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg do not eat it. Instead return it to your nearest Aldi store for a full refund. For further details, please visit help.aldi.co.uk or contact customer services on 0800 042 0800.”
Tesco withdraws Aubergine Katsu Bao Buns
In a separate significant recall, Tesco has withdrawn its Tesco 6 Aubergine Katsu Bao Buns following a failure to declare milk as an ingredient on the packaging. This oversight means the product could present a serious health risk for anyone with a milk allergy or intolerance to milk components.
The recall covers products with all use-by dates up to and including December 13, 2025, and customers who have purchased the 258g product should exercise caution.
The supermarket chain is removing the product from circulation and has informed appropriate allergy support groups, which will notify their members about the recall following standard protocols. The chain has also issued a recall notice for its customers.
The FSA advises: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk do not eat it. Instead return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. For further details, please visit the contact page of Tesco’s website: tesco.com/help/contact.”
