‘I drank Pumpkin Spiced Latte in August to see if it’s really too early’

Is it too early to indulge yourself with a Pumpkin Spice Latte? Some people will think yes, it’s still summer, so act like it. However, others will be more than keen to try…

Summer technically lasts until Monday, September 22. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love summer. Hot weather, holidays, bikinis and reading in the sun with plenty of SPF 50 slathered all over my body is my idea of a very good time. But I know that secretly, there’s a bunch of us that are excited for blankets, cosiness, candles, and of course, Pumpkin Spiced Lattes. What can I say? I enjoy and appreciate all seasons.

But when I found out that Starbucks had launched its Pumpkin Spiced Latte drinks early to appease its orange leaf-loving customers, I knew I had to try one to see whether it was too early.

It’s almost 20 degrees outside and still pretty sunny (with some small rainy spells), so I was a little apprehensive about trying such a cinnamon and pumpkin-heavy drink in August. Shouldn’t I still be drinking mango or strawberry-flavoured water-type drinks? Probably, but I can’t help but get sucked in by a hype or a trend.

I’ve seen so many people on social media telling autumn-lovers to be quiet, so what I’m about to say may cause some controversy…

But, I truly believe that it’s never too early for a Pumpkin Spiced Latte.

This year, Starbucks has brought out an all-new drink that’s bound to delight customers – the Pumpkin Spice Caramel Macchiato.

Described as “a bold innovation that marries two of Starbucks’ most loved beverages: the Caramel Macchiato and the Pumpkin Spice Latte,” I was so excited to try.

Available generally in stores from September 4 (which may be more palatable for those clinging on to summer), the drink is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy flavours, with the cinnamon and pumpkin notes coming through perfectly. I opted for mine iced, because I thought it was a nice little nod to summer (even though I’m an iced coffee person all year round).

I feel like Starbucks has nailed it with this new addition. It’s not so sweet that it’s super sickly (although my trying to drink more matcha lately probably made it taste sweeter than it should’ve) and it’s not too pumpkin-y that it’s overbearing if you’re new to some of the earthier tastes.

It’s a great ‘My First Pumpkin Spiced Latte’ vibe if you’re new to these flavour sensations, and I enjoyed every last sip.

So, is it too early for a Pumpkin Spiced Latte? Personally, right now, if I ordered one again, I’d be going for iced. It’s nice to have the earthy flavours with the cold and refreshing taste. But when autumn properly hits and you can see your breath outside when you’re wrapped up nice and warm, a hot version would definitely go down a treat, too.
