People realise they’ve been using cheese graters wrong their whole lives

A mum has gone viral after she shared a life hack for using a cheese grater – but some people have claimed it’s too much hassle and they’d rather just by it pre-grated instead

A woman’s revelation about her cheese grating technique has taken social media by storm this week. Tayla, known as @homewithtayx on TikTok, is famed for her lifestyle tips on cleaning and parenting. However, it was her recent cheese grating video that left followers gobsmacked, racking up over 71,000 likes.

In the viral clip, Tayla admits: “All my life I’ve been grating cheese like this.” She shows herself using a cheese grater in the traditional upright position with a block of light cheddar. The 24-year-old mum-of-two then demonstrates what she believes to be the correct method, laying the grater on its side, which she claims is the wrong way to do it.

Instead, she flipped it on its side and said: “But apparently this is the right way. So much easier. And it gathers in the middle of the grater. So it’s easier to transport your cheese.” Before adding in the caption: “23 years of living and I never knew this?”

The hack has since sparked a flurry of comments from equally amazed TikTok users, with one saying: “27 tomorrow and I never knew.”

Another lamented their own culinary skills, commenting: “I’m convinced I’m not doing anything right.” Jokes and praise followed, with one user quipping: “What a grate solution,” while another exclaimed: “Why have I never thought of this ffs!”.

However, some people admitted they were too lazy to grate cheese themselves. One viewer commented: “And then there’s me, who’s too lazy to grate it and buys grated cheese from Asda.”

A second person added: “It obviously isn’t because there’s a base at the bottom and a handle at the top.” Another individual wrote: “That’s more hassle, buy it ready grated obviously.”
