Ten years on from its release, space disaster movie Gravity continues to be a hit with movie lovers and is available to stream on Amazon Prime and NOW TV. The film, which has been labelled by TimeOut as the “best disaster movie of all time” in its latest ranking, came out in 2013 and was met with instant critical acclaim.

Gravity takes on the stranded in space disaster and stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. It’s IMDb synopsis reads: “Dr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking.”

Directed by Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, he said the tragic story is largely about adversity and he used the debris as a metaphor for this.

Bullock is the central character of Gravity, with Clooney supporting her. Ryan Stone, Matt Kowalski, Ed Harris, Orto Ignatiussen and Phaldut Sharma also play roles in the movie.

The total cost of making Gravity ended up being more than some countries actual space programs.

The film was met with widespread critical acclaim, with high praise for its direction, visuals, cinematography, acting and score and is considered as one of the best films of 2013.

It appeared on numerous critics’ year-end lists, and became the eighth-highest-grossing film of the year with a worldwide gross or more than $723 million.

Gravity gets a 96% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

On the movie, TimeOut said: “In terms of sheer, sweaty-palmed tension, it outdoes just about every other movie on this list.”

Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian gave the film five out of five stars and said: “You could find yourself asthmatically gasping with rapture and excitement at the same time. After it was over, I was 10 minutes into my tube ride home before I remembered to exhale.”

An IMDb fan of the film wrote a review and said: “This is now my favorite movie ever, because it’s so rare to find a movie, especially a Hollywood one, that can speak so deeply, so poetically and so subtly about life, the universe, and everything, in 91 minutes with such astonishing grace and artistic honesty.”

Gravity is available on the NOW TV and Amazon Prime Video – but Neflix fans will be left disappointed as it is not currently available on there.
