Adam Sandler names favourite film – and there’s nod to it in popular comedy | Films | Entertainment

Adam Sandler, the legendary comedian, paid homage to one of his favourite films in a hidden scene in one of his most popular comedies.

The Hollywood star, renowned for his roles in Anger Management, Click, and Hustle, subtly acknowledged a film that had influenced him from an early age in one of his comedy classics.

Despite starring in a plethora of comedic films, Sandler found a moment to honour Judy Garland and her impact on his career during an unexpected scene in one of his more eccentric movies.

In a YouTube interview with Letterboxd, Sandler revealed his four current favourite films, including Caddyshack, which he cited as one of his favourites.

This love for golf-themed comedy led him to create Happy Gilmore, with a sequel set to be released on Netflix later this year.

While promoting his Netflix film Spaceman alongside Paul Dano, Sandler couldn’t limit himself to just four films and mentioned several others.

His choices included Caddyshack, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Silent Movie, and Five Easy Pieces. He then switched his fourth choice to another Jack Nicholson film, The Last Detail, before changing it again to Marathon Man, and then Serpico.

Adam Sandler’s fans have lauded his modesty after Paul Dano selected ‘Punch-Drunk Love’, a film featuring Sandler, as one of his favourites. Responding to the praise, Sandler humbly remarked: “Oh my God. Thank you. That was Paul Thomas Anderson’s work, I just happened to be in it.”

Admirers took to social media to express their appreciation, with one fan commenting: “I love Adam Sandler’s reaction to punch drunk love. He can be humble all he wants but he made that movie at least 40 percent better. Such an incredible movie.”

Another added: “Adam Sandler and Paul Dano just out here having impeccable taste.” This comes on the heels of Sandler’s revelation that he paid homage to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ in his 2000 comedy ‘Little Nicky’.

In the book ‘You Gotta See This’, Sandler expressed his admiration for the classic film, saying: “I love The Wizard of Oz. This is not exactly the kind of thing a man wants to admit, but my mother makes me watch it again and again.”

He playfully added, “Okay, that’s not exactly true. I want to watch it, too. Maybe I even make my mother watch it with me. Now the secret is out. But don’t you think Dorothy is pretty cute and that Scarecrow had a heart from the beginning if you ask me?”

In a nod to the iconic movie, ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ is subtly integrated into a scene in ‘Little Nicky’, a tune famously covered by artists like Eva Cassidy and Cliff Richard.
