Much to the delight of Grand Theft Auto fans everywhere, recent claims that GTA 6 was internally delayed appear to be false. According to a Grand Theft Auto insider with a decent track record of posting leaks, GTA 6 has been internally delayed by development studio Rockstar Games. The source claimed to have received the information from multiple developers across two different studios. It was believed that GTA 6 would launch in early to mid-2026, instead of the current release window of autumn 2025. Fortunately, however, multiple Rockstar employees have refuted the claims, which means for now at least, GTA 6 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in late 2025.
That’s according to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who contacted multiple Rockstar sources for clarification.
“The internet (and my DMs) blew up this weekend over a rumour that GTA VI is delayed,” Schreier tweeted. “Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay. Bad news: it’s a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive.
“I want to be very clear: Six staff told me they weren’t *informed* of a delay,” Schreier continued.
“For all I know, Rockstar’s executive team could have decided months ago to delay GTA VI without telling the company. But the lack of internal announcement suggests that the Twitter rumour was nonsense.”
As you can see from the tweets above, any potential delay hasn’t been communicated to the wider staff at Rockstar Games, which pokes holes in the original claim.
However, as Schreier points out, a game as ambitious as GTA 6 could easily be hit with a delay or two further as we get closer to launch.
With all this speculation for and against a delay, fans will be hoping Rockstar Games provides a concrete release date and pre-order information when trailer 2 eventually drops.
