Economically, Huddersfield lags way behind big-city neighbours Leeds and Manchester.
Jason McCartney, the Conservative MP for Colne Valley on the outskirts of Huddersfield, is a Town and Giants supporter.
He said: “There are currently no cranes in Huddersfield town centre and very little in the way of development, so I have been quite critical of the Labour-run Kirklees Council for dragging their feet on their regeneration plans.
“They are two years into a 10-year blueprint plan and nothing much has really happened, apart from them reneging on a deal to house the National Rugby League Museum.
“Over and above that, I want our town to flourish and sporting success would not only put Huddersfield on the map, but bring economic benefits which could help deliver major regeneration.”

Corberan was asked on Thursday whether he had spoken to Watson in the build-up to this weekend’s finals, but he had not.
Instead, the studious Spaniard has been taking advice from his old Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa as he plots Huddersfield’s bid to return to the top flight, five years after the charismatic David Wagner took them there for a two-season stay.
