Three teenagers who allegedly broke into two homes armed with machetes before stealing a car have been arrested after a wild police chase.

Police said three offenders armed with machetes committed two home invasions and an attempted carjacking at Mickleham about 6:30am. Nobody was injured in the attacks.

The three teens chased by police as they drove an allegedly stolen Nissan Pathfinder SUV through Wyndham Vale, Werribee and suburbs in Melbourne‘s north-west, reaching speeds of up to 200km/h.

The pursuit, which involved up to 12 police cars and a helicopter, ended at the Sunbury Square Shopping Centre carpark at about 10am.

‘The three occupants exited the vehicle outside a shopping centre where they were arrested by Critical Incident Response Team officers with the assistance of Air Wing,’ police said. 

Police said a 16-year-old Wyndham Vale boy, a 15-year-old Ivanhoe girl and a 15-year-old Windsor girl were in custody.

Louisa, who was shopping at the Sunbury Square Shopping Centre, provided real-time updates about the teenagers’ arrest while speaking on radio station 3AW. 

‘They’ve got someone on the ground it looks like. They’ve got someone in handcuffs,’ she said. 

‘One’s on the ground in handcuffs, they’ve got zip ties on him and there’s another one further up sitting on the gutter.’

Louisa reported that approximately 20 police officers were present at the scene, with more en route, as police helicopters circled above in search of the abandoned SUV.
