Nintendo has made a number of big announcements about upcoming Switch titles. This includes a Nintendo Switch release date for one of the best role-playing games ever made. Revealed in time for Mario Day on March 10, the previously announced Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door remaster has been given a May 23 launch date for the handheld/home console hybrid. The Thousand Year Door is easily the best game in the series, and honestly, one of the most interesting and entertaining RPGs of all time.
Anybody hoping to pick up the game in time for its May 23 launch date can pre-order the title from the Nintendo eShop.
Priced at £49.99, the game once again sees Mario attempt to find Princess Peach, while also collecting Crystal Stars.
“After Princess Peach asks for his help on a treasure hunt, Mario heads to the town of Rogueport,” reads the official description.
“But when he arrives, Peach is nowhere to be seen! Upon learning about the legend of the Crystal Stars, Mario sets out to find these mythical treasures and hopefully track down Peach along the way.”
As part of the game, Mario can transform into a paper airplane to reach faraway platforms, as well as a paper boat to travel across water.
The Paper Mario release date isn’t the only announcement Nintendo made for Mario Day.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD has been given a June 27 release date for the Nintendo console.
The visually enhanced adventure sees players explore the eerie Evershade Valley, where Luigi must collect pieces of the shattered Dark Moon.
Finally, Nintendo has confirmed that a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie will be released in 2026.
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will return for the sequel, which is said to expand on the world from the original film.
This has led to speculation that other Nintendo properties could feature in the new movie.
