At least one person is dead, and six others were rushed to the hospital after a mass stabbing at a tribal headquarters in Canada on Thursday.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) told the Daily Mail that multiple people were stabbed in Hollow Water First Nation earlier this morning.

‘We can confirm that at least six victims have been transported to hospital and one victim is deceased,’ police said.

RCMP said the suspect, who has not been identified, is also dead. Officers are investigating at scenes within the community as well as on Highway 304, just south of Black River First Nation.

‘Our officers are gathering information to determine what exactly occurred this morning and we will be providing a more detailed update early this afternoon,’ RCMP said.

‘Our sincere condolences to everyone within the community of Hollow Water First Nation and to everyone who has been affected by this senseless act of violence.’

Hollow Water First Nation released a statement confirming there is no longer an immediate threat to the community.

‘Due to the tragic events that happened in our community this morning, the Chief and Council would like everyone to know that they are aware of the situation and are working alongside the RCMP,’ said Hollow Water First Nation.
