Danielle Collins hit back at fans who had heckled her during her match against Destanee Aiava, sensationally telling Aussie fans ‘thanks for the paycheck’ while she blew kisses to members of the audience at the Kia Arena.

Collins had already lashed back at some patrons inside the stadium during the first set, telling them to ‘shut up’ as the partisan crowd began to berate her, while they cheered for the local star Aiava.

It was Collins, though, who had the last laugh, and boy did she drink it in. She strutted her way around the court and placed her hand against her ear sarcastically before blowing kisses at the fans.

Immediately after the match, Collins went on to address fans…

It was a tough crowd and I figured if I’m going to be out here tonight I figured I’d better take home that bigger paycheck. Thanks for the paycheck Australia.

Having reached the third round Collins has banked herself a whopping $290,000 which she said she is now planning to spend on a five-star girls holiday.

But she added that the trolling hated her again adding, ‘it just feels like a really great day!’

I’m definitely somebody that needs to have a bit of a fire under my a**. This just motivates me to just do better. It’s an amazing feeling as an athlete because the people that dislike you or hate you pay your bills. That’s a really rewarding feeling to be out here and yeah it feels like a really great day.

Collins has just arrived for her presser here at the media centre and has told us that she’s going to spend the money earned here on a five-star getaway with her friends.

I loved it. I’ve been doing this my whole life and I love playing in a crowd that has energy. Regardless of what side they’re on. I’m somebody too. It kind of just motivates me even more and is kind of a good thing even when I’m not playing that well. It helped me in the end, helped me concentrate a lot more and challenged me at times. And pushed me kind of through the finish line.

I was like at the end: “Well I’m going to be here for two hours, putting up with all these people, I might as well take the bigger paycheck, right?” I was super happy to do that and one of the greatest things about being a professional athlete are that the people that don’t like you and that hate you, they actually pay your bills.

It’s kind of a cool concept and obviously, my professional career is not going to last forever and I just remind myself every day when I have that kind of stuff that they’re paying my bills. Every person who has bought a ticket and has come out here to heckle me can do what they do. It’s all going towards the Danielle Collins fund. So like, yeah, bring it on I love it.

When asked where she was planning on going on holiday she said…

Some players have hit out at fan behaviour at the Australian Open already, with GB’s Harriet Dart hitting out at boisterous fans claiming that the tournament has been like being at a football match.

Collins, meanwhile, also claimed that some patrons were ‘super drunk’.

Oh, I mean, I think in a lot of places… I mean, look Destanee is from here. I think they really wanted for her to win badly. I think there were a lot of people that were super drunk and had a hard time controlling themselves and were really excited. I think, too, they wanted to continue to see a good, long, hard match.

But yeah, I mean, look, I’m from a different country, here competing against someone that’s from here. Ultimately it was a pretty cool environment I thought. Even though it was pretty rowdy, this girl loves it, so…

Danielle Collins has reportedly just told fans inside the Kia Arena to ‘shut up’ and blew a kiss in their direction.

She’s currently a set ahead against Aussie star Destanee Aiava and the home crowd are certainly getting behind their player, with the partisan crowd cheering wildly for the home favourite.

Collins, though, doesn’t seem too impressed by their support, telling some fans to ‘shut up’.

Some fans have hit out at the broadcast scheduling for tonight’s game between Destanee Aiava and Danielle Collins.

One slammed Channel 9, claiming that they were not promoting women’s sport by showing Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis’ doubles match instead of Aiava’s defeat.

She believes that Collins did have a lot of her own fans in the stadium too and while some booed the US star, Aiava said she felt it was kind of equal.

It was really loud again tonight. I feel like it was kind of equal. I heard a lot of her supporters. For me, as well, I just tried to use it again to my advantage.

They were amazing. Even if I did hear them go for her, it was still a really great atmosphere.

An even more bizarre moment just unfolded as Collins hilariously asked the moderators if she could swear during her presser.

Asked whether it phases her to be the pantomime villain, she replied…

Yeah, I mean, all I have to say is good luck pissing somebody off or getting under the skin of somebody that doesn’t – can I say it?

The moderator quickly replied: ‘Don’t say it,’ with cameras pointing at the US star from every angle.

Seriously, good luck trying to get under the skin of somebody that really doesn’t care.

Collins has continued to explain her antics after the game in her press conference, sensationally claiming that fans who booed and heckled her during her victory against Destanee Aiava were paying her wages.

Collins delivers a parting shot to the crowd…

Fans have hit out at Collins for her reaction to the crowd following her victory against Aiava.

Destanee Aiava has suffered a 6-7 6-4 2-6 defeat by Danielle Collins at the Kia Arena.

The Aussie star fought gallantly to clinch the second set but could not hit back at her opponent in the final exchange to clinch the victory.

Collins, meanwhile, goaded the fans after the match, blowing kisses to spectators.

Right, while Kokkinakis and Kyrgios have just bowed out, Jannik Sinner has also sealed a 3-1 win over Aussie star Tristan Schoolkate.

The match finished 4-6 6-4 -6-1 6-3, with Schoolkate coming out of the blocks to steal the first set off the world No 1.

Bizarrely after the match Sinner was asked by John McEnroe of all people how he controls his emotions while on the court…

That was what Thanasi Kokkinakis said last night after his five-set thriller against Jack Draper and concerned were immediately directed to whether he would play doubles with Nick Kyrgios today.

I don’t want… I feel like I’m letting him down, letting people down. But yeah, I don’t know, I won’t be able to lift my arm tomorrow. So we’ll see. Unless we’re both playing with underarm serves, it’s looking pretty unlikely.

Though the pair dazzled on court it seems the Australian Open has just come at the wrong time for the entertaining Aussie duo.

Thanasi Kokkinakis has unfortunately retired in the second set of this match with the pair having gone behind in the opening set.

It appears Kokkinakis’ pectoral injury just wasn’t quite right after his five-set defeat by Jack Draper last night with the pair having just left the court while conceding the defeat to Vukic and Duckworth.

It didn’t seem like Kokkinakis was in that much bother out there on the court but he had been very hesitant over whether he would play today, admitting he wanted to give back to the fans.

Tell you what that’ll infuriate Danielle Collins even more now after she told partisan fans inside the Kia Arena to ‘shut up’.

Aiava pushed the American right to a tiebreaker in the opening set, before pulling back a 6-4 victory in the second set.

Collins also had to take a medical time-out after she appeared to have a problem with her foot.

The Special K’s are behind at the moment. But they’re continuing to dazzle the fans inside the John Cain Arena.

Both players came into this match with injuries, with Kyrgios having suffered an abdomen strain in the build-up to the match, while Kokkinakis revealed he had been suffering from a pectoral injury throughout the week.

But there was a bizarre moment at 5-4 where Kyrgios hit out at the chair umpire for giving his team-mate a penalty.

Kokkinakis had belted the ball up into the crowd after it had gone dead, giving one fan a very cool souvenir, while earning himself the code violation.

Kyrgios wasn’t happy about the moment.

We’re both injured right, full stadium of people to come see us play, and he doesn’t have to be here right?

He hits the ball out of pain and you’re going to give us a code violation?

But it’s not unsportsmanlike?

I’m just saying, read the game a bit more.

The umpire said he didn’t have any choice, but Kyrgios responded.

I’m just saying, you don’t have to do that.

We were talking about rowdy fans at the Australian Open earlier today and it seems some fans are still shouting while players are trying to serve here at the John Cain Arena.

Meanwhile, Kokkinakis and Kyrgios have gone a set down, with Duckworth and Vukic taking a 6-5 lead.

We’re back underway here in the second set, with Kokkinakis and Kyrgios seemingly getting their calls mixed up.

Kokkinakis has just sprinted into Kyrgios on the left tramline as they attempted to prevent a shot from going out of play.

While they lost the point, the good news is that both players are not injured and they laughed off the funny moment

Tristane Schoolkate came out of the blocks to nick the first set but seems to be running out of a bit of steam here.

Sinner has now bounced back to go 6-4 6-1 in the second and third sets.

And he’s rearing into form here, having gone 3-0 up in the fourth set.

It’s been a disappointing week for both Kyrgios and Kokkinakis.

First it was Kyrgios who suffered defeat by Jacob Fearnley on Monday night here at the John Cain Arena.

He raised fears over who long he would be able to continue playing, stating that he may not play singles at the Australian Open again.

Then came Kokkinakis. In a brutal five-set thriller last night, injuries got the better of the Australian, as he succumbed to Jack Draper’s late comeback before being knocked out of the men’s singles.

Earlier in the week, Kyrgios said the pair ‘owed it to the fans to go out there and play’ doubles.

But Kokkinakis conceded that he might have to pull out of doubles.

I feel like I’m letting him (Kyrgios) down, I’m letting people down but yeah, I don’t know,’ Kokkinakis said on Wednesday night.

I won’t be able to lift my arm tomorrow. So we’ll see. Unless we’re both playing with underarm serves, it’s looking pretty unlikely.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a couple of underarm serves out there already tonight!

Nick Kyrigos and Thanasi Kokkinakis might be 5-3 down right now but the Aussie duo are certainly getting the fans on their feet here.

The pair pulled off some incredible trick shots at the net as they attempted to hold on their own service but they could not stave off the advances of Aleksander Vukic and James Duckworth, with Kokkinakis hitting a ball into the middle of the net.

This is a really fast-moving match, with both partnerships moving through the points very quickly here, it’s hard to keep up with some of the outrageous shots they’re playing as it is!

Fans on X are absolutely gutted for the Brit, who had teased a comeback before being beaten in the third set.

‘Cannot believe Katie Boulter crashes out of the Australian Open in the second round after teasing a comeback,’ one wrote.

‘Katie Boulter yet again gave her all but still not good enough he serve yet again is her weakness,’ another added

After sealing victory earlier this afternoon, Swiatek is here to remind fans how to pronounce her name!

The Polish star has been drawn up against Emma Raducanu in the next round of the tournament and is relishing her match up against the Brit.

It’s going to be a tough one. Emma can play great tennis. We all know that.

So, Yeah I’ll just prepare as before any other match.

It was a tough blow for Katie Boulter, who had been lapping up the atmosphere around Melbourne Park this week, having admitted that she felt at home playing at the Australian Open.

But today she crashed out of the Australian Open, despite a brilliant comeback against Veronika Kudermetova.

Huge roars going up for the Aussie duo after both suffered early exits at the Australian Open this week.

We’ve an all-Aussie battle going down at the John Cain Arena right now with the duo taking on Aleksander Vukic and James Duckworth.

Meanwhile, at the Rod Laver Arena, Tristan Schoolkate has allowed Jannik Sinner back into this match, with the Aussie losing the second set 6-4.

That one is going to sting. Boulter worked so hard to fight back in that match having lost the first set.

She pushed hard against Kudermetova in the second to seal a dominant 6-2 win to level but she could not find an extra gear in the final set.

With Alex de Minaur watching on in the stands, Boulter suffered a 6-2 defeat, with Kudermetova sealing a crucial break at 4-2.

The pair had looked pretty inseparable up until then with Boulter failing to convert a break at 2-1.

Oh no! She’s been playing so well and it looks like Kudermetova’s going to hold on her own serve here too.

Kudermetova takes a 4-2 lead and has gone 40-love against Boulter.

Can the Brit drag it back?

Sensational stuff from Katie Boulter as she levels in the second set with a dominant 6-2 victory, breaking her opponent Veronika Kudermetova three times.

She’s forced her opponent to make mistakes here on Court 3, with Kudermetova making 31 unforced errors so far during the match.

But this one looks like it’s going to go down to the wire, with Kudemetova leading the final set 3-2.

Tristan Schoolkate, 23, has just become the first player to take a set off reigning Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner, in 106 days.

The Aussie has the Italian on the ropes here at the Rod Laver Arena, with the crowd going mental for Schoolkate.

He wins the set by playing a booming backhand over the net, with Sinner unable to respond, smashing his shot into the middle of the net.

The Perth-born star has only won one game in his career on the ATP Tour, but he is seriously impressing right now on Rod Laver.

Sinner can’t believe it, he holds his hands up to the sky in disbelief!

Sydneysider Alex de Minaur gave a much more partisan answer to the question on who has the best coffee, Sydney or Melbourne.

And perhaps Swiatek should have taken a leaf out of Alex de Minaur’s book.

Speaking about what he gets up to on his day off, he said:

You know it mate, we’ll go find the best coffee shop in town.

He was then pressed with the same question as Swiatek.

We saw Alex de Minaur warming down on a bike on Tuesday evening following his victory against Botic van de Zandchulp.

Before rushing over to watch his new fiancee Boulter, who was in action at the Kia Arena, De Minaur had to complete his warm-down. But that was not going to stop him from watching his beau in action, as he flicked on the telly to watch Boulter battle her way to victory against Rebecca Marino.

Well, earlier today, the shoe was on the other foot it seems!

Boulter was seen warming up for her second-round clash against Veronika Kudermetova backstage at Melbourne Park on Thursday.

But mid-way through her warm-up boulter was seen running over to the information desk at the entrance to the player’s gym and asked staff to switch the televisions inside the fitness studio to De Minaur’s match.

It’s been an interesting week for Nick Kyrgios after the Aussie star crashed out in the first round of his Grand Slam return on Monday night against Jacob Fearnley.

The divisive and outspoken star is set to return to court later tonight alongside doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis, who like the 29-year-old has dropped some bombshell comments this week sounding out fears over his future.

While Kyrgios has sounded off against Jannik Sinner in recent weeks, the Aussie today chose to wage war against Channel 7s new broadcaster, Kane Cornes on X.

Kyrgios lashed out at the former footy player on social media after Cornes had slammed him on SEN Breakfast.

Iga Swiatek may have put her foot in it during her post-match interview.

Melbourne is known for having some of the best coffee shops in the whole of Australia.

But after booking her place in the third round of the tournament, the Polish star appeared to ruffle the feathers of some fans inside Rod Laver, after she admitted that the coffee was better in Sydney than it was in Melbourne.

Well, I gotta say, in Sydney I found better coffee shops…

Huge boos rang around the Rod Laver arena as Swiatek laughed, before she backtracked.

But no, no, no, guys! It’s not easy for me to fall asleep during a Grand Slam. My coffee level needs to be a bit lower so I’m only drinking it before the match.

So I didn’t do the right research, so, sorry for my answer.

Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray have set aside their bad blood, but there was a LOT of drama around her shock withdrawal earlier this year.

Even Murray’s mum, Judy, bizarrely got involved in the foray…

Emma Raducanu said she had tried to reach out to apologise to Andy Murray following her controversial withdrawal from their mixed doubles partnership at Wimbledon last year.

The 22-year-old copped widespread flack following the move, even from Murray’s mum, Judy, who posted a sarcastic message on X claiming Raducanu’s injury withdrawal was ‘astonishing’.

The Brit, who advanced to the third round of the women’s singles event earlier this afternoon, was forced to withdraw from the match citing a need to protect an injured wrist.

Jacob Fearnley and Jack Draper both secured berths in the thrid round of the Australian Open on Wednesday night with two huge victories late in the evening.

And the Brits have continued to dazzle at Melbourne Park, with Emma Raducanu bested Amanda Anisimova 6-3 7-5.

Though, fears were raised after Raducanu received treatment on what was a lower back issue during the match.

Today, the Brit showed great tenacity to fight her way past 35-year-old Anisimova.

Speaking on her injury she said:

I haven’t fully investigated it yet. I just did my recovery and stuff. Haven’t seen the physios. I think it’s almost to be expected when you haven’t played a match in so long. And then to have two really physical ones. I think small niggles are going to come up here. and there. I’m just hoping that it is that.

Yeah, I was able to push past some pain today, but I’m going to just try and recover as best as possible over the next day.

It’s been a busy day here already at Melbourne Park!

The big news today is Alex de Minaur has claimed a three-set victory against Tristan Boyer to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Despite there being a lot of expectation on the Australian he’s bounding with confidence and cruised his way past the American at the Rod Laver Arena.

He’ll now take on No 31 seed Francisco Cerundolo from Argentina in the third round.

It was a comfortable win for De Minaur who continues to show how cool he is on the court, despite the wave of expectation on him to break the long wait for a male Aussie player to win at Melbourne Park since Mark Edmonson won at Kooyong in 1976.

Meanwhile, his fiancee, Katie Boulter is due to get underway in the second round shortly with the Brit set to take on Veronika Kudermetova on Court 3.
