As Downing Street‘s most famous animal, Larry the cat has outlasted five Prime Ministers and takes his role as Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office seriously.
But not all of Sir Keir Starmer‘s new ministers are fans of the 17-year-old tabby who roams the streets of power. Scottish Secretary Ian Murray has branded Larry as a ‘little s***’, telling a dinner in Glasgow that he is ‘the most miserable animal you’ll ever meet in your life’.
His words come as a blow to the Chief Mouser’s status in Downing Street, having already been subject to competition from a new Siberian kitten recently adopted by the Prime Minister and his family.

‘We were initially like kids in a sweet shop,’ Mr Murray said of Labour’s election celebrations.
‘We walked to Downing Street really excited and all we wanted to do was… try and get a picture with Larry the cat. And without putting too fine a point on it, Larry the cat is a little s***. So none of us got a picture.
‘Larry the cat is the most miserable animal you’ll ever meet in your life. I’m not surprised given who he’s had to live with for the last ten years.’
