Ronggang Yan was born in China and began studying Chinese calligraphy at the age of seven. He developed a strong interest in photography during high school. With a particularly keen sense of structure’s beauty, his black-and-white photos taken in high school were published in a nationally circulated digital newspaper due to their excellent composition. This unique aesthetic perception of light and shadow is a result of long-term immersion in calligraphy art. Calligraphy not only trained his hand-eye coordination but also cultivated his sharp sense of lines, structure, and composition.
While pursuing his master’s degree in London, he often spent weekends strolling through the city center, documenting the architecture and landscapes. In his photography, one can clearly feel the integration of Eastern ink painting aesthetics, gradually forming a unique ink-style photography.
