Fans of the Los Angeles Rams are concerned for the health of a star tight end after he suffered a brutal injury that led to him getting evaluated for a concussion.
During the third quarter of their opening game against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia on Friday, tight end Davis Allen hauled in a 13-yard catch from quarterback Matthew Stafford.
As Allen ran toward the sidelines, he was tripped up out of bounds – only to be hit in the head by Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
Video showed Allen’s body violently react to the hit, which some are claiming was an attempt at the ‘fencing position’ – a common indicator of a head injury. However, it’s unclear what exactly happened.
Allen struggled to get up after the play and then tripped over his own feet as he headed off to the sideline.
He immediately went into the team’s blue medical tent and was examined by training staff.

After emerging from the tent, Allen climbed onto the back of a cart and was taken to the Rams locker room.
The team announced he was questionable to return and was being evaluated for a possible concussion.
The Rams suffered a lopsided defeat to their NFC West rivals Down Under, falling 27-7 in their opening contest.
Los Angeles chose to fly into Australia less than 48 hours before kickoff, a controversial decision that seemed to affect the team.
After the loss, head coach Sean McVay took responsibility for the defeat: ‘They outplayed us in every facet. I didn’t do nearly a good enough job,’ McVay told reporters after the game. ‘This is a humbling day for us, and this will define us only if we allow it to.’
He added: ‘I didn’t do a good enough job getting us ready to go. There were some opportunities where maybe the game could have flipped, but they deserve the win.’
McVay continued: ‘Sometimes sports can humble you and today was one of those days. I make no excuses. Whether you want to say it’s about travel, whatever, we just weren’t good enough in that window.
‘I didn’t coach good enough and we’ll look at it and we’ll move forward and that’s where we’re at right now.’
