October half term is quickly approaching, but there are still plenty of bargain breaks to snap up and get away from the dreary UK.

From the characterful streets of Krakow to sunny skies in Turkey, Brits can find affordable and fun trips as the weather begins to turn.

Many seem to want to get away, too, as searches for flights are up 11 per cent compared to last year, according to Kayak.

On average, a trip abroad during half term comes to £801 per person, but there are bargains to be found.

Certain destinations are better value than others, and Krakow, Poland tops them all.

Holidaymakers can bag a seven-night stay in a hotel and a return flight for £401 per person, on average, based on two adults sharing.

Krakow has plenty to offer in the autumn months, it’s still relatively mild and the city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Hearty pierogi is easy to find and perfect for the cooler weather, and there are lots of cobbled streets to wander around.

Venice, Italy, doesn't cost much more either and comes to around £420 per person.

Without breaking the bank, tourists could enjoy a canal-side spritz or tuck into local Italian cuisine.

The third best-value trip, found by Kayak, is to Budapest, in Hungary at £461 per person on average.

Visitors can head to the thermal baths, or explore the historic and characterful Old Town.

Prague, in the Czech Republic, ranked fourth and still comes under £500 at around £481 per person.

Meanwhile, Milan, Italy, came fifth and was priced at an average of £509 per person.

Rachel Mumford, UK travel expert at Kayak said: ‘This year, Brits are looking to balance value with adventure.

‘Travellers are venturing further afield, with Marrakech, Toronto and Tokyo all seeing double-digit search increases for the half term.

Prices are the combined average of a return flight and a seven-night hotel stay, based on two adults sharing.

‘But, there are still savings to be found closer to home. Hotspots like Venice, Budapest and Krakow all offer seven-night stays for under £500 per person.

‘Malaga and Palma de Mallorca in Spain are favourites for year-round sun, and both are ranked among Kayak’s best-value one-week trips for the upcoming half term break.’

Certain destinations are trending for October half term, too, like Granadilla in Spain which has an average price flight of £441 and has seen a 29 per cent increase in searches this year.

Marrakech is also on the rise with a 27 per cent increase, with tourists considering warm evenings and local cuisine as a perfect escape from the UK.
