Mason Mount could make his return to action for Manchester United this weekend with boss Ruben Amorim confirming that if he is fit, he will take him to Leicester for Sunday’s Premier League clash.

‘We need players like Mason Mount. I think he will be on the bench, we will see,’ said Amorim. ‘We need him and every player. If he is fit, I will take him. He cannot play too many minutes but just five minutes of Mason Mount is perfect.’

The 26-year-old has been out since December when he suffered a hamstring injury during the Manchester derby but returned to first-team training earlier in the week.

And Amorim insisted that he has full belief in Mount, despite the Englishman enduring a second injury-plagued campaign since signing for £55million from Chelsea in 2023.

‘I really love Mason Mount. I see him and know how he suffered. I know how he does everything right – he eats right, his physical aspect is perfect,’ he said.

‘He’s trying too much. Maybe he is thinking too much about everything. He was a European champion, he is a talent. When a player does everything like he does, he will always have the support of everybody here at the club. We will try to manage the load. You saw players who had a lot of problems in time but they can then stay fit and I believe a lot in Mason Mount.’

Amorim hailed the United side after arguably their best attacking display under him against Real Sociedad as United came from behind to set up a quarter-final against Lyon next month, courtesy of a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick.

‘I feel that in the last games that we understand the idea of what we want to do better. We are better at understanding the plan for the games, we are giving more time for the team to win or draw games – not conceding a goal and losing our minds and suffering another goal,’ he said.

‘We are understanding the moments of the game and also we are understanding better the way we want to play,’ Amorim added.

And he called on his players to forget the Premier League table, ahead of their visit to bottom-placed Leicester .

‘Everything is important. And we need to continue with this feeling that we can win games and then games after games. It doesn’t matter what rest or the time to prepare for the next game, we can do it and showed it against Arsenal,’ Amorim said.

‘We have to be humble and forget the table and face Leicester like we faced Real Sociedad. We need to win to improve our position in the table and the most important thing is continuing with this feeling of winning and that we are improving as a team.’
