Lidl has urgently recalled a popular cheese product found to contain dangerous bacteria.

Customers have advised to not eat Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese wedges due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes which can in some cases cause meningitis.

The dairy products have been recalled in Northern Ireland , as the supermarket warned of a particular risk to those over 65, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.

Listeria can cause symptoms similar to flu, including a high temperature, muscle ache and pains, chills, feeling or being sick or diarrhoea, the Food Standards Agency said.

In rare cases, it can lead to a severe infection with serious complications, such as meningitis.

The recall affects all 150g packs of cheese wedges with a best before date of May 11 2025.

Customers who have bought the product from Lidl NI should not eat it and instead return it to the point of the purchase for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

In a recall statement, Lidl said: ‘Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland is recalling the above Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge with a Best Before Date of 11/05/25 due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Customers were told to return packs of McGhee’s Family Bakers 6 Scottish Brown Rolls after some were mistakenly shipped with the brand’s white rolls. which contain soya.
