A 29-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries, Detective Superintendent Wayne Humphrey told reporters.
He said both men were allegedly armed during the altercation – the 38-year-old allegedly with an axe and the 29-year-old with a Razor scooter.
No charges have been laid yet.
Superintendent Humphrey said both men were known to each other but only ‘casually’.
‘They live nearby but as far as I’m aware at this stage … they weren’t well-known to each other,’ he said.

Early police investigations indicate the 38-year-old was allegedly involved in an altercation or melee and the 29-year-old emerged from his home and objected to the ‘noise’, Superintendent Humphrey said.
Both were known to police, he confirmed.
Detective Humphrey urged anyone with information or dashcam vision to contact police or contact Crime Stoppers.
Resident Cassie Lee described the area as ‘quiet’.
‘I woke up to the sound of somebody kicking a door in, so I thought I better check that out, because it could be a neighbour,’ she said.
‘[I] came out to check what was going on and saw a gentleman on the floor and then police arrived.’
