A foodie from Edinburgh has revealed some of the best places to eat and drink during the Fringe festival.

Every year for the month of August, Scotland’s capital city welcomes around three million visitors to enjoy several weeks of theatre and comedy. But the historic town is also a fantastic place to enjoy a variety of international cuisines, and there are plenty of options for a pre- and post-show tipple dotted about the town.

Now, Scottish food blogger Pippa, who posts on Instagram as @eatinburgh, has shared her top recommendations for places to enjoy some lunch, dinner or drinks. She said: “So you’re coming to Edinburgh for the festival and you want to know where to eat? Let me help you with that..”

Pippa then revealed some of her favourite spots, including Cannonball Restaurant & Bar, which boasts a very impressive view thanks to its location at the foot of Edinburgh Castle. “Enjoy the sounds of the pipe bands of the @edinburghtattoo wafting down the Royal Mile while eating some excellent dishes with local ingredients.

“My top pic for a first-time Edinburgh visit!” she continued.

Other suggestions included the fried chicken pop-up Coop, which also serves up lobster rolls and flatbreads; Mara’s Picklery & Cafe, where you can enjoy a number of different pickled delights; and Asian eatery Pomelo Cafe, which boasts a menu that changes weekly.

In addition, Pippa recommended Pablo Eggs-Go-Bao, which serves ‘breakfast in a bao [bun]’; Macanese restaurant Macau Kitchen; Alby’s for top-of-the-range sandwiches; and Noodles Home, opposite the Festival Theatre.

People were quick to praise Pippa for her suggestions. One wrote: “Omg so glad I stumbled on this!!,” while another agreed: “

So many amazing options,” followed by a heart-eyes emoji.

Meanwhile a third chimed in: “This is awesome – thank you!”. “Love noodles home, such a hidden gem!!” a fourth agreed.

Pippa also said she had created an exclusive Google Maps list with even more recommendations that fans could buy, with the money going to local food charity Edinburgh Food Project .

“The madness of August in Edinburgh is upon us once again and this year to help with your @edfringe food planning I’ve also created a festival-specific Google Map pinning all my favourite food spots in the heart of the action along with pins for the major venues,” she said. “All proceeds will go to @edinfoodproject – find the link in my bio to purchase!”

The Edinburgh Festival will run from today (August 2, 2024) until August 26.
